What You Will Need in Year 1

Reading Books:  Your child will need to bring their reading book and reading record to school every day. You are encouraged to read with your child every day and to sign their reading record.

Spellings:  New spellings are sent home every Monday so the children can practise at home. They will be tested on these spellings the following Monday.

Homework: As well weekly spellings, reading and phonics practise, other curriculum homework will be sent home on occasion with instructions when appropriate. 

PE:  For Summer 1 half term, your child's PE day is Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on this day. The class teacher will clarify which kit is needed (indoor or outdoor) at the beginning of each half term depending on what their topic is.

Library Day:  The children have the opportunity to borrow a book from the school library. Year 1's library day is Tuesday. Please note there is a £7 fee for lost library books.

Water Bottles:  Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school each day. It may only contain water - no fruit juice or cordial please.
