RE Theme

Our first RE topic is the unit on community. In this we look at what responsibilities we have as part of a community. Then we look specifically at our parish community. We will learn about people who help in St. Mark’s parish. We will look at how our church community supports people at different times.

The following unit focuses on the parts of mass, in particular, the Eucharist or Holy Communion.

Our children are involved in Phonics lessons following the Letters and Sounds scheme which is part of their reading and writing development. These sessions begin at 9.05 am.
Please ensure your child is on time so that sessions can begin.
At St Mark's we follow a spelling scheme called Shakespeare and More.  The scheme consists of 32 lists of words for children to learn. The lists get progressively more challenging, matching the year-on-year content of the National Curriculum.  Click here for more details.

At St Mark's our children follow a reading scheme that includes a variety of different types of reading books from various publishers to ensure they have access to a wide range of texts. These books are numbered using the Reading Recovery levels. Please help your child by reading at home as often as possible.

If you would like to know any more about your child's learning please speak to the class teacher.
